PLAN AN ISLAND GETAWAY FOR YOUR BACHELORETTE PARTY

By Jennifer Newton

Bachelorette parties are having a moment. From highly-personalized events to weekend-long getaways, bachelorette parties are the pre-wedding festivity that bonds the bridal party. In Long Beach, we have the benefit of getting away without really having to get away…to Catalina Island. Here’s your ideal bachelorette party (or just a fun getaway) weekend schedule.

Friday | 2:00 PM

Take The Catalina Express From Long Beach To Avalon

Tell your besties to take the afternoon off. The Catalina Express leaves the Long Beach Harbor at 2 PM sharp. Make sure to get there at least 45 minutes early to find parking and take some group pictures before you board.

Make it Bougie: Upgrade to the Captain’s Lounge and get a private stateroom for you and your five friends, priority boarding and four complimentary beverages.

Friday | 4:00 PM

Check In At Your Hotel Or Airbnb

For a smaller group, check in at the Hotel Atwater. Centrally located in the downtown area of Avalon, this beautifully restored historic hotel is just one block from the beach.

Make it Bougie: Hotel Atwater offers luggage service from the ferry terminal, freeing up your hands for a cocktail.

For larger groups, reserve one of the many Airbnbs on the island.

Friday | 7:00 PM

Time For The Biergarten

For your first night on the island, keep it casual. Head over to FLX Biergarten for a hot dog, pickled egg and flight of some of the most unique beers you’ll find in Avalon.

Saturday | 6:00 AM

Go On A Hike Or Just Brunch

For the early risers, there are more than 165 miles of hiking trails to enjoy on Catalina Island. For those who like to sleep in, rent a golf cart and meet the hikers for brunch at Airport in the Sky.

Saturday | 11:00 AM

Descanso Beach Club

Strolling along the boardwalk to the Descanso Beach Club is the very best way to enjoy Catalina’s beautiful ocean paradise. Rent paddle boards and kayaks or just lounge by the ocean and work on your tan.

Make it Bougie: Book one of the Presidential Cabanas located right on the water. Enjoy your own Beach Butler, complimentary smoothies (seasonal) and bottle service. Book early. They definitely sell out months in advance.

Saturday | 1:00 PM

Lunch At The Avalon Grille

Just a few steps away from your cabana at the Descanso Beach Club is the perfect lunch spot, the Avalon Grille. Enjoy fresh California Coastal cuisine, try their famous bison burger (in honor of the many bison that roam the island) and wash it down with The Famous Wrigley Martini, only available here!

Saturday | 5:00 PM

Get Ready For A Night Out

Enough soaking in the sun! It’s time to get ready for a night out on the town. Need a glow up? Head over to the Catalina Dry Bar for a blow out. Once your squad has glammed up, don’t forget to take the traditional group picture in front of the Wrigley Fountain.

Saturday | 7:00 PM

Dinner At Bluewater Grill

For that special celebratory dinner, dine at the only restaurant actually on the water in Catalina, Bluewater Grill. Enjoy an array of fresh seafood from the dining room or the patio over the water. Toast the bride with Catalina’s official cocktail, Buffalo Milk, served here.

Saturday | 9:00 PM

Out On The Town

While Catalina offers a lot of fun activities, don’t expect to be out until 3:00 AM at the club. It’s no Las Vegas. After dinner, do some bar hopping along the main street and head to Club Chi Chi to dance the rest of the night away.

Sunday | 10:00 AM

Hangover Brunch

Well, that was fun last night! Now it’s time to get out of bed and get some breakfast, a strong coffee and maybe a little “hair of the dog” at The Pancake Cottage. Try their Pancake Cottage Mary or Good Mornin’ Margarita with a Good Ol’ Fashioned Stack of pancakes to banish that stubborn hangover.

Sunday | 12:00 PM

Zip Line Or Spa Time

There are two types of people, those that see vacation as an adventure and those that see it as a time to relax. Let your bridal party be who they are by offering two different morning activity options. For the action-oriented people, head over to the Zip Line Eco Tour. But make sure to book your reservations at least a few weeks in advance. It will sell out. For those who want more peace and quiet, book a massage at the Catalina Sea Spa

Sunday | 3:00 PM

But Of Course, Shopping

If you don’t come home with a souvenir, did the trip really even happen? Save some time for shopping in the eclectic shops in downtown Avalon. Whether you’re looking for a beautiful memento, like a piece of artisan jewelry from Latitude 33, or a funny reminder, like a “F*cking Catalina Wine Mixer” hat from Catalina Memories, you’re sure to find a great memento from your time in Catalina.

Make it Bougie: Visit the Catalina Art Association and take home an original piece of art created by a local Catalina artist.

Sunday | 4:00 PM

Lloyds Before You Go…Always!

You can’t go to Catalina without stopping for some ice cream. Lloyds of Avalon has been serving premium ice cream, fudge, saltwater taffy, unique candy and bakery items to locals and tourists since 1941.

Sunday | 5:00 PM

Time To Head Home

No one wants to leave the beauty of Catalina Island. But just think of all the memories you’ve posted on social media. Get to the dock about 30 minutes early. The last boat leaves at 5:50 PM back to Long Beach.

Make it Bougie: Not feeling the hour-long boat ride home? Get back to the mainland in 15 short minutes by taking a helicopter. Just think of the lasting impression it will leave on your bridal party!

The best part about Catalina is that everything is in such close proximity. So, no matter what the bride and her besties choose to do, Catalina provides it all in roughly three square miles of walkable, beautiful coastal space.
