Before she ever picked up a pair of shears, Salon Medusa’s owner and stylist Jenny Martin worked in retail and fashion. She loved the creativity of it but felt she needed a career change. It was her late mother who helped her see the next step. “My mom told me, ‘You’ve always had a gift with hair and makeup—why don’t you study cosmetology?’” Jenny recalls with a smile.
After studying cosmetology, and simultaneously caring for her mom, she earned her license and joined Salon Medusa as a stylist. She quickly built a loyal following, not just because of her skill but because of her warmth. “People come in with so much on their minds,” she says. “As hairstylists, we are sometimes like therapists. Women are able to share with other women and by the time they leave, they feel lighter.”
When the salon’s longtime owner, Silvia Quinones, decided to sell, she went straight to Jenny to see if she and her husband would like to purchase it. At first, Jenny was hesitant about the big responsibility of owning a salon, but her husband, Fernando Martin, encouraged her and she knew that her mom looking down from above would have urged her to as well.

A Grand Opening
To celebrate both her new role as salon owner and the woman who inspired it all, Jenny hosted a Grand Opening on June 27th, her late mother’s birthday. “I wanted that day to honor her and everything she poured into me,” Jenny says. The event brought together clients, friends, family, fellow small business owners, and local elected officials. Guests enjoyed coffee, drinks, and small bites from local staples like Dutch's Brew House, Bixby Joe, and the Vintage LBC.
“We’ve lived in the Bixby Knolls area for 12 years and have felt a great sense of community. Even the small business owners support and uplift one another in the area. People genuinely want to see neighbors succeed,” Jenny shares.
As an owner, Jenny has poured her heart into maintaining the salon’s friendly energy while adding her personal touches—elegant décor, inviting lighting, and thoughtfully curated haircare products. “I feel the love of this community. They’ve been here cheering me on every step of the way.”
For Jenny, owning Salon Medusa isn’t just a business milestone—it’s a reflection of everything she values: family, community, and connection. “I couldn’t have done this anywhere else,” she says, “Bixby Knolls is our home and a tight-knit community.”
