CHAI IS TEA

Chai has made its way to many of the best coffee shops in LB. What is chai? The word chai actually means tea. The popular spiced drink, enjoyed both iced and hot, originated in India. A chai latte is a great alternative to espresso lattes if you’re trying to stay away from coffee but are still craving something milky and flavorful.

At Recreational, a cozy and modern coffee shop in DTLB, the chai latte (recommended iced) is perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy. The cinnamon garnish gives it just the right kick to make you appreciate all the flavors. The space itself is perfect for catching up on a project or chatting with a friend. And the baristas are more than happy to answer any questions or make solid recommendations.

You might have missed Bixby Joe while driving on Atlantic in Bixby Knolls, but once you try their chai or BEC bagel, it might become your new favorite coffee joint. This traditional neighborhood cafe offers everything from coffee, tea, or smoothies to breakfast or lunch options. Their chai is one of their most popular drinks. It is on the sweet side, and for someone who loves a sugar rush just as much as a caffeine rush, it's perfect.

Hojas is a neighborhood tea house that specializes in loose-leaf teas. They have many handcrafted blends made with much love. The house chai, one of their most popular drinks, is infused with herbs, spices, and dried fruit. Only served hot, it is the perfect drink for cool weather and leaves you feeling calm and cozy. They also have a masala chai if you are in the mood for an iced drink.

Cali Chilli is a luxurious Indian restaurant hidden in Parkview Village. It is the perfect place for a romantic night out or a fun dinner with friends. If you’re looking for a more traditional chai taste, their ginger cardamon chai is the best combination of warming spices and tea. It is served hot in a smaller portion and in my opinion, the perfect way to end a meal.
