CAMEO MENTORING PROGRAM HONORS GRADUATES
“Had it not been for CAMEO, I would not be where I am today,” expressed Alvin Avina, class of 2016 CAMEO mentoring program, auxiliary of Assistance League® of Long Beach, “The mentorship I received gave me a goal I could see.” As the son of immigrant parents, he was the first in his family to graduate college. His six-year career in Long Beach City Hall started with a CAMEO internship and culminated in being Field Director and Business Liaison, District 7. During this work, he found he loved budgeting and will complete his master’s in accounting from CSULB this year.
CAMEO guides students through a three-year, one-on-one mentoring program to help them identify and fulfill their college and career goals. Students also attend monthly enrichment workshops, complete paid internships, and receive scholarships. Interested in becoming a mentor? Email CAMEO@ALLB.org.
