President Trump announces Misty May-Treanor to Presidential Council

May 10, 2018

Misty May-Treanor to be appointed co-chair of President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.

This past weekend was quite the weekend for Long Beach volleyball. On Saturday, the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team won its first national championship in 27 years against UCLA at the Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, California.

On Friday, President Trump announced his chairs of the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition (PCSFN), which includes three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Long Beach City College Director of Volleyball Operations and Long Beach State alumna, Misty May-Treanor.

Others appointed to the PCSFN were New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, former New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, football legend Herschel Junior Walker, golfer Natalie Gulpis and the man who gave President Trump a clean bill of health during the 2016 presidential campaign, Dr. Mehmet Oz. All appointed members will chair their respected positions for a two-year term.

May-Treanor, 40, currently oversees both men’s and women’s programs at Long Beach City College. She won Olympic gold medals with long-time partner, Kerri Walsh-Jennings, in 2004, 2008 and 2012 before retiring after the 2012 Olympic Games at the age of 34. Walsh and May-Treanor are 66-time event champions and once went on an incredible 112 match winning streak.

The PCSFN was established in the ‘50s, and it encourages Americans to live a healthy and active lifestyle through good nutrition and by learning from fitness professionals and educators.

Congratulations to Misty May-Treanor on an incredible honor. You make the city of Long Beach proud.
