908 Athlete of the Week: Long Beach State Women's Softball Pitcher, Cielo Meza

Long Beach State women’s softball sophomore pitcher, Cielo Meza, threw seven strong innings earning the win in the opening game of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge beating Louisiana Tech 2-1 on Thursday. The Fillmore, Calif. native only gave up two hits and one run with 12 strikeouts over her seven innings of work. Meza took the mound on Friday against James Madison where she threw eight innings of two run ball with nine strike outs to lead LBSU to a 4-2 victory. LBSU dropped the final game of the PVCC in Mexico falling to James Madison 6-4 on Saturday night. Meza threw seven innings giving up four hits, three runs and striking out two.

 

Meza, the pride of St. Bonaventure High School, went 2-0 with a 1.27 era over 22 innings pitched during the opening tournament of the season. LBSU women’s softball plays Iowa State in the opening round of the Eastern Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada Friday at 6 p.m.
